Frequently asked questions

What data does the Brreg Open API provide?

The Brreg Open API covers the Enhetsregisteret and Foretaksregisteret — company name, org number, legal form, address, NACE code, status, and registered roles (board members, CEO, auditors). It does not include financial data. That comes from Regnskapsregisteret, which has its own separate API.

Does Orakel have access to Regnskapsregisteret data?

Yes. Orakel fetches annual financial filings from Regnskapsregisteret and stores up to five years of history per company. The free Regnskapsregisteret API exposes only the most recent filing; Orakel accumulates deeper history over time as each new year's data is released.

Is there a free tier?

Orakel offers a free trial — no credit card required. Paid plans start at €79/month. The Brreg Open API itself is free for all users and always will be; Orakel is the layer on top that adds financials, enrichment, and integrations.

What is an org number / organisasjonsnummer?

An organisasjonsnummer is the unique nine-digit identifier assigned to every legal entity registered in Norway. It is the primary key for all lookups in Brreg — the same number appears on invoices, contracts, and the business registry. Formatted as XXX XXX XXX.

Does this work for Swedish, Danish, and Finnish companies too?

Yes. The same API endpoint and API key cover Norwegian (Brreg), Swedish (Bolagsverket), Danish (CVR), and Finnish (YTJ) companies. Pass the country code and org number — Orakel routes the request to the correct registry automatically.

What's the difference between Enhetsregisteret and Foretaksregisteret?

Enhetsregisteret (the Entity Register) is the central register for all legal entities in Norway — companies, foundations, associations, and public bodies. Foretaksregisteret (the Register of Business Enterprises) is a subset within Brreg that covers entities with commercial activity and imposes disclosure obligations such as filing annual accounts. Most companies you will look up are registered in both.
